Human bones found by hunter

A University of Illinois anthropologist is assisting in a Kankakee case where human bones were discovered. A mushroom hunter discovered the bonds in a wooded area River Road Friday.

The Kankakee County Coroner’s Office reported the bones and a tombstone were found on the south side of River Road. The old Kankakee State Hospital Cemetery is nearby on the north side of the road. The Daily-Journal reported the old state hospital dates back to 1879.

The matter remains under investigation.
