Humid weather blankets area, early school dismissals

August weather finally arrived this week just in time for the start of another school year. Some of the hottest weather of the summer has brought temps in the 80s and low 90s. Heat index readings in the 100 – 105 are likely into next week.

Donovan, Bradley and Kankakee schools announced early dismissals today. Some districts will also send students home early Monday.

The National Weather Service says an upper-level ridge of high pressure will build, resulting with rising temperatures and humidity. Afternoon high temperatures today through Monday are expected to reach the low to mid-90's. And heat-index readings are likely to reach 100 to 105 each day. The heat-index is how hot it feels when you factor the heat and humidity.

This will be one of the longest periods of hot, humid weather this summer and residents are being advised to use precautions. Limit your exposure to the hot, humid conditions. If you need to be outdoors, be sure you drink plenty of fluids and take frequent breaks.
