I-57 rollover injures 5 in Iroquois County

A mini-van rolled over injuring five people, including two children Saturday night on I-57 at the Onarga exit. Illinois State Police report the accident happened just before 7 pm in the northbound lane. A 46-year-old man lost control of a mini-van; the vehicle flipped several times, according to reports. One child was thrown from the van, another was partially ejected. An 8-month-old infant riding in the van remained secured in his car-seat.

A press release from ISP says it happened just before 7 p.m. on northbound I-57 just past the State Police reported 46-year-old Jose Martinez was the driver. He was seriously injured. So was 40-year-old Denise Hernandez, a passenger in the van. The report stated all are from Chicago.

I-57 was shut down for hours for clean-up and the investigation.
