Two people are dead after multiple crashes brought both directions of Interstate 65 to a halt in northwest Indiana. State police report 15 semis, five cars and two vans were involved in at least three separate crashes. The interstate has been closed in at least one direction since late Tuesday night.
The names of the victims have not been released. Authorities reported they died in two separate crashes.
The northbound lanes are closed from the State Road 43 exit to the SR 18 exit. The southbound lanes are closed near the U.S. 24/U.S. 231 exit in Jasper County.
Police said fog was the contributing factor in the crashes.
In Illinois---two high school students were killed Tuesday night when the car they were in crashed while travelling to a basketball game. It happened on Route 38 in Rochelle. A fog advisory was in effect at the time.
