I-West High School student named U.S. Presidential Scholar

GILMAN — U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has announced the selection of Halley Cummings of Danforth, who attends Iroquois West High School in Gilman, as a 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholar.

Cummings is the daughter of William and Jill Cummings and will be attending Washington University in St. Louis with an intended major of architecture.

Cummings is one of 141 American high school seniors selected as 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholars. They will be honored for their accomplishments in Washington, D.C., from June 22-25.

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, appointed by President Barack Obama, selects students annually for the honor based on their academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to high ideals.
