Ice jams on the Kankakee River

The NWS has a flood warning on the Kankakee River. Ice jams are causing the potential for flooding.

The County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Chad Gessner said river-watchers are keeping a close eye on the waterways. He said those living in the usual flood-prone areas should, be cautious and be ready to move, if needed.

Minor flooding was reported at Momence and at Wilmington. The ice jams near Wilmington and at St. Anne backing up to the Indiana state line causing some concern.

Extreme cold by mid-week will keep those ice jams from breaking up.

Ice jams can result in rapid rises on the waterways... with little or no warning.
