One additional death and 48 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Vermilion County on Monday. Case rates continue to increase in all parts of the state. The Vermilion County Health Department also announced the ninth death in the county from the virus, a woman in her 70’s. The county has had four people die locally in the past two weeks from the virus. And the virus is hitting younger people. The latest update is listing seven teenagers, one grade-schooler and a toddler. There are also five people in their 20’s and four in their 30’s. Vermilion County has had 1,314 positive cases since March.
Iroquois County Public Health added 12 new cases Monday, the total now at 444. Ford County Public Health reports 19 new cases and one new death, a woman in her 70’s. Ten people have now died of the virus in Ford County. There are 251 positive cases.
Governor J.B. Pritzker also announced the state is banning indoor restaurant service and restricting social gatherings in southern Illinois as a result of high case counts. Central Illinois currently has a 7.6 percent positivity rate. All of the state’s regions are experiencing increasing positivity rates.
Pritzker also announced he will begin a daily coronavirus briefing again.
