Illinois Department of Public Health to Adopt CDC Guidelines for Schools

The Illinois Department of Public Health is adopting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's new guidelines for schools. The guidance allows for people who fully vaccinated to go without masks in schools.

Students under age twelve who are not eligible to receive the vaccine yet and those who haven't been vaccinated are still being asked to mask up for school. The guidance calls for three feet of social distancing. Schools that can't meet the three feet of distance because of size are asked to consider more masking requirements.

Regular symptom screening and monitoring community spread of the virus are still being recommended. The Illinois Department of Public Health says getting the vaccine remains the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
