Illinois Gas Prices Decline

Illinois gas prices declined 7 cents from last week. The state average has been fluctuating with today’s price for a regular gallon of gas at $3.88, a week ago the price was $3.95, and a month ago $3.98. A year ago the price stood at $5.39.

Schools across the state will soon be out for summer vacation and the summer drive season will be in high gear. This can cause gas prices to fluctuate and possibly go higher.

"Pump prices have been under pressure during the past month, due to falling oil prices," said Molly Hart, spokeswoman for AAA - The Auto Club Group. "However, oil prices could strengthen this week. Over the weekend, OPEC agreed on another round of oil production cuts. It’s unclear how much of an effect this will have on fuel prices, but if oil prices rise significantly, drivers would likely see higher prices at the pump."
