Illinois man dies in crash at Indiana race track

Sheriff’s Police in Newton County (IN) report the traffic death of an Illinois driver who lost control of his race car at the U.S. 41 Motorplex Track at Morocco. It happened Friday afternoon just before 5:30.

Sheriff Shannon Cothran said the un-identified driver from Mackinaw (IL) was performing a solo timed-run on the track. For some unknown reason, the vehicle (1996 Mustang) ran out of control after crossing the finish line. The vehicle then collided with the guardrail causing it to become airborne before coming to rest in a nearby wooded area. The crash resulted in the vehicle catching fire, leading to the death of the sole occupant.
