Military announcements (Monday) from the National Guard. Members of the Guard, including those based at the Greater Kankakee Airport, are being deployed to Afghanistan. (Kankakee-based Company C, 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment will deploy in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. A mobilization ceremony is scheduled for (Sunday) July 28 at 4 pm. The ceremony is at the Kankakee Readiness Center at 1911 E 4000 S Road.
Woodstock-based Company D, 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment will also deploy to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. A deployment ceremony is scheduled for (Saturday) July 27 from Woodstock High School.
In a press release from the Illinois Army and Air National Guard…Freeport-based 333rd Military Police Company deployed to Cuba (last Saturday). The 120 Soldiers from the 333rd Company deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. They’re expected to be there approximately nine-months. The unit will support Joint Task Force Guantanamo providing security.
