Illinois unemployment steady from November to December

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says that the unemployment rate stayed steady from November to December. Illinois' unemployment rate was at 4.7 percent in both months. The December rate in 2021 was 5.1 percent. The national rate in December 2022 was at 3.5 percent.

The industries that added the most jobs were educational and health services, trade, transportation, and utilities, and government. The industry sectors that lost the most jobs were professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and other services.

About 303,200 people in Illinois were looking for work, but were unable to find it.
