WATSEKA, ILLINOIS – Officials at Iroquois Memorial Hospital and Resident Home have announced that children under the age of 18 and adults with cold-like symptoms are not allowed to visit patients in the hospital or Residents at the Iroquois Resident Home until further notice due to the Enterovirus-D68 outbreak that has occurred in Illinois and eleven other states. The virus usually starts like the common cold; symptoms include sneezing, a runny nose, and a cough. It's difficult, if not impossible, to tell the difference between a regular cold and this type of virus. If you see your child's condition changing from the signs of regular cold to developing a fever or a rash, difficulty breathing, or they just look like they don't feel good make an appointment with your family physician or take them to the local emergency room.

To reduce the spread of the Enterovirus-D68 people should:
• Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after changing diapers
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
• Avoid kissing, hugging and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are ill
• Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick;
• Stay home when feeling sick and obtain consultation from your health care provider.
