REYNOLDS, Ind. —Fourteen people onboard an Amtrak train were injured today (Tues) when the train traveling from Indianapolis to Chicago collided with a semitrailer that crossed into its path.

White County, Indiana Sheriff Pat Shafer said the injuries were not life-threatening. The injured people were taken to local hospitals.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says no one aboard the Hoosier State line suffered serious or life-threatening injuries. The collision happened about 25 miles north of Lafayette, near Reynolds.
Magliari says the train was carrying 56 passengers and three crew members.

Sheriff Shafer says the collision occurred about 8:20 am when the northbound train struck a semitrailer at a rural crossing along U.S. 421.
