Officials at Indiana Beach in Monticello want the public to know they are open for business and the park is safe. The recent death of a young camper was not because of any negligence.

Ten-year-old Blaike Glassburn, of Mishawaka, Indiana, was killed Tuesday morning when a tree branch fell onto his tent at the Indiana Beach Campground.

The tragedy was out of anyone's control. An amusement park official called it "an act of God. It could happen anywhere at any time."

That act of God was a thunderstorm at the Indiana Beach Campground Tuesday morning, and Indiana Beach Marketing Director Don Hurd said it led to the Glassburn's death.

Hurd said, "This was not an incident with the rides. It was an incident that happened at the campground, unfortunately, during a heavy thunderstorm. Those type of things we really can't control."

Glassburn was camping with family when a thunderstorm began to pass through the area. Hurd said the storm rolled in quickly and strong winds caused a large limb to break and fall onto Glassburn's tent.

Glassburn was pronounced dead at a local hospital Tuesday.
