Indiana Deer hunter falls from tree stand

A Fountain County, Indiana deer hunter was airlifted to the hospital after a fall from a tree stand Wednesday afternoon.

Department of Natural Resource (DNR) officers said it happened around 4:15 p.m. in a wooded area south of Covington.

28-year-old Justin Raley of Covington was hunting in a stand about 20 feet off the ground. Investigators said the cables designed to hold up the bottom section of the stand rusted through and broke.

Raley was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with serious internal injuries and a broken wrist.

Investigators said Raley was not wearing a safety harness.
