Indiana man identified as victim of Larry Eyler

A Jasper County, IN "John Doe" case dating back to 1982 is now solved.  The John Doe is now said to be William Lewis, a victim of convicted serial-killer Larry Eyler.  Eyler was accused of killing up to 20 young men and boys over several years.

The body of William Lewis, of Peru, IN, will be moved and laid to rest next to his father.  It comes after his remains were identified 40 years after his death. The 19-year-old Lewis had been known as only Jasper County John Doe, found near Rensselaer in 1983.  Authorities said he was killed by Eyler, who died of AIDS in 1994 while in prison.  Eyler had confessed to his attorney that he killed the Jasper County John Doe after picking him up along U-S. 41 near Vincennes, IN in 1982.

Jasper County Coroner Andrew Boersma said he spent 20 years reading over police reports to help bring this kid home.  William Lewis has been buried with a John Doe gravestone at Sayler Makeever Cemetery.
