Investigation: Plane down south of Chebanse

Emergency responders were at the scene of what was reported as a plane crash this (Friday) afternoon south of Chebanse. Earlier reports had three people onboard the aircraft, which went down just before 2 pm near County Roads 1600 E and 3300 N. Initial reports indicated a small plane crash. Others reported the incident may have been an off-field landing due to engine failure.

Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police confirmed the plane crashed in a wheat field southeast of Chebanse. Three occupants were transported to Riverside and Amita St. Mary’s Hospitals in Kankakee. The extent of injuries wasn’t known.
Emergency personnel dispatched also included Chebanse and Otto Township Fire, Beaverville and Aroma Park Fire and Riverside EMS. Illinois State Police also assisted at the scene.

The Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
