Iroquois County Board acts on vacancies

The Iroquois County Board (Tuesday) gave approval to Gilman resident Gerald "Jed' Whitlow to fill a vacancy on the board in District 2.  Whitlow was sworn-in by County Clerk Breein Suver.  He was one of the candidates to earn votes in the recent Illinois Primary Election. And he fills a seat left vacant with the recent resignation of David Penney.

Whitlow had decided earlier to seek a seat again. He would have taken his District 2 seat along with other election winners in December. The resignation of Penney opened the door for an early-return to the Board.

The Policy & Procedure committee also recommended a motion to approve Frank Petkunas as Regional Superintendent of Schools for Iroquois and Kankakee Counties. The early appointment is effective August 1 to fill the un-expired term of Dr. Greg Murphy, who recently announced his retirement.

The Kankakee County Board also voted to endorse Petkunas to the Regional Office of Education.

The official certification of the June 28th Election was also approved, concerning all elected candidates.
