A 2-vehicle collision in Iroquois County Wednesday seriously injured a Mission Texas man, who failed to stop at a rural intersection in Middleport Township. 36-year-old Merced Mendoza was air-lifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana after initial treatment at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.

Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police investigated at 2100 N and 2200 E. Mendoza’s eastbound pickup struck a northbound pickup driven by 25-year-old Matthew Mense of Watseka. Mense was treated and released for a minor injury. Mendoza’s condition was unknown. He remains hospitalized in Urbana. Mendoza was cited for failure to yield and for no valid driver’s license.

A witness to the crash notified 9-1-1. Concord Fire and Riverside Ambulance responded to the scene.
