Iroquois County Finance committee ‘backing’ public safety tax

Iroquois County voters will be asked in November if they support a quarter-cent sales tax to support public safety.

Should it pass, it’s the County Board responsibility to channel the money to respective public safety avenues. And -- the finance committee (Thursday) was in special session to hear recommendations as to how to use that money.

Committee members voted 4-0 to ‘find positive use of any public safety revenues.’

As important the issue is, committee members Kevin Hansen and Dan Rayman were absent from the meeting.

The 4-0 vote came from members Brett Schmid, Charlie Alt, Russell Bills and Ernie Curtis.

Public safety information and needs were presented by 9-1-1 Coordinator Nita Dubble. A successful vote on the quarter cent tax would generate $400,000.

The county is currently looking at a $53,000 budget deficit for FY 2017.
