Iroquois County fuel spill

Emergency management officials are dealing with a release of gasoline from a pipeline in Iroquois County.  The Marathon Pipe Line Company has shut down and isolated the pipeline and deployed resources to contain the fuel release.  Clean-up activities are also underway.

Gasoline reached a field ditch near Gilman but has been contained upstream of Spring Creek.   Marathon Pipe Line officials are conducting air monitoring as a precaution.  No injuries have been reported as a result of the release.  The cause is believed to be the result of third party activity.

Marathon Pipe Line states its top priority during its response is to protect the safety of responders, the public, and the environment.  Regulatory agencies, including the U.S and Illinois EPA, have been notified.
