Iroquois County: Highway Superintendent Joel Moore Remembered

A moment of silence for Joel Moore. The Iroquois County Board (Tuesday) stood in silence to remember its long-time Highway chief. Joel Moore passed away April 21 after a bout with cancer. The 53-year-old’s tenure with Iroquois County was certainly worth noticing. He directed so many projects in addition to his role as Fire Chief in Thawville. And he was active in so many community and civic organizations.

County Board Chairman John Shure, Highway Committee Chair Charlie Alt and former Board member & Highway Committee Chair Russell Bills shared thoughts on what Joel Moore was all about –when it came to county government.

"Joel will be difficult to replace. We have big shoes to fill," Shure said.

Moore was a member of the National Association of County Engineers and past-president of the Illinois Association of County Engineers.  Joel also was a charter-member of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club, serving as Secretary at the State level. He was also an avid horse-lover with his wife and best friend, Melisa.  And never forget his dear dog, Tazzy.

Joel's parents, Grace & Kenny Kinder of Mahomet, also attened the Board meeting.
