The Iroquois County Board has scheduled a special meeting – because business wasn't taken of.
The Board meets at 9 am Friday in Watseka. The business at hand is setting salaries of elected officials, which is required well ahead of the next election. The matter could have, or should have been taken care of at the Board's regular meeting earlier this month (May10). But it wasn't.
The officials salaries, required by statue, were set earlier this month by Kankakee, Ford, Livingston, Vermilion and Champaign county. It was part of their regular business.
So, the Iroquois County Board will spend un-necessary money for a special meeting, another special meeting. And, at a time when the money-crunchers are always screaming "we need to watch our dollars."
The elected office-holders and any expected pay raises for them, rest assured, will be closely scrutinized. But that tab for the "special" meeting ? That's OK !
