Iroquois County was an apparent victim of a phone hack. Now, AT&T is working with the county to correct a $1,755 bill.
The county's October AT&T phone bill showed 192 international calls to Latvia, resulting in the $1700-hundred dollar bill. The system was hacked into in September, according to county Finance Director Anita Speckman. She told the county board's policy & procedure committee (this week), AT&T's fraud division confirmed someone hacked into the phone system on September 11 and made the international calls.
During the investigation, it was learned the system was also hacked two more times, on September 24th and 25th. The charges will be removed from the county bill.
