Iroquois County traffic stop leads to two arrests

Two Danville men are jailed in Iroquois County, another is on the run after a traffic stop near Milford Sunday.

30-year-old Terrance Liggins and 27-year-old Jeffery Lee are charged with manufacture/delivery of cannabis. A third suspect fled from the stopped vehicle after Sheriff's deputies made a traffic stop on Illinois Route 1 at County road 1050 N. The stop was made due to a rear registration light not working.

The deputy, police reported, detected a strong odor of cannabis emitting from the vehicle. The occupants exited the vehicle with the unknown suspect handing a plastic bag of green leafy substance to the deputy. Then, that same male grabbed a brown paper bag with unknown contents from the front seat of the vehicle and fled, leaving Liggins and Lee behind.

Back-up officers arrived and assisted in a search for the fleeing subject. Police were unable to locate the unidentified male who fled. Liggins and Lee denied knowing the identity of the third individual inside the vehicle, driven by Liggins.

Iroquois County deputies are now working with Danville Police on leads to track down the fleeing suspect.

A search of the vehicle led to the finding of four individually- wrapped one-pound bags of a green leafy substance believed to be cannabis. Also seized was $750 in cash.
