This week's expected frigid weather has government offices in Iroquois County closing. The County Courthouse in Watseka will be closed Wednesday (January 30) and Thursday (January 31). Sheriff Derek Hagen made the announcement Monday afternoon. The Courthouse plans to re-open Friday, February 1st.
Emergency Management Agency: Warming Centers available ---
Wind chills are expected to reach better than 45 degrees below zero Wednesday. The temperature readings can lead to hypothermia and frostbite. Citizens are advised to dress appropriately, wearing layered clothing and covering all exposed skin. Neighbors shoudl be checked on and pets should be brought inside.
Warming Centers will be open for those needing to escape the cold. The Watseka Public Library 10a - 6p...Trinity Church 9a -5p... both in Watseka, will be open for the public to get inside. Other Warming Centers are at the Crescent City Community Center 7a-9p...St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gilman 8a-5p...and the Church of Christ in Martinton around the clock. The facilities will be open at least Tuesday thru Thursday.
Citizens are also urged to keepafetu in mind when using portable heaters.
