Iroquois, Ford, Kankakee, Vermilion County Boards OK FY19 budgets

New fiscal years begin December 1 for county business. County leaders (Tuesday) voted to approve their respective spending plans while also approving levies to operate.

Iroquois County Board Chairman John Shure calls the FY19 budget “a good one”......

“It should get us thru the next year in good shape; I hope we don’t run into any unexpected problems. We should be happy with the budget,” Shure tells WGFA News.

Revenues show $5,336, 548 dollars. Expenses are listed at $5, 310, 128.

“I guess what’s noteworthy, it’s a balanced budget with about $28,000 surplus, Shure added.

The Ford County budget shows a slight deficit. There’s a difference of $6,149 between expected revenues of $4, 120, 078 and anticipated expenses of $4, 126, 277.

In Kankakee County --- Board Chairman Andy Wheeler reports the FY19 budget is much improved. He says in another year the county should show positive numbers in the range of $6 or maybe $700,000. That is most welcome considering just a few years ago, “things were so bad no banks would do business with us.”

Wheeler credits the finance committee people, department heads and the employees for the progress.

Vermilion County Board Chairman Larry Baughn is happy to report there will be no increase in real estate tax bills. The Board approved the FY19 Tuesday evening in Danville.
