The Iroquois County Board (Tuesday) approved its tax levy for Fiscal Year 25. The levy amount is for $6-million, 545,000 thousand dollars – an increase of 9.7 percent.
The levy increase is NOT an overall 9.7 percent hike in a person’s tax bill. The increase is ONLY the County’s portion of the Tax Pie picture, making up the overall amount for taxpayers. The Tax Pie (referred to in charts) is what a taxpayer needs to see and understand, as to what other government bodies are doing with their levy.
County Board Chairman Paul Ducat (Do-cat) says the County levy assures expenses are covered… "We want to keep the levy as low as possible to keep us in the black. We also have to bring in enough money to provide for our citizens. Thanks to board members Scott Watts and Doug Geiger for their extra work with Clerk Breein Suver and Finance Director Jill Johnson for getting the numbers in order."
Several program expenses are covered in the levy.
Iroquois County Finance committee Chairman Scott Watts explains the Illinois Tax System is complicated, and certainly not easy to understand. Watts also says any given-taxpayer needs to make the effort to understand the tax process and learn how the entire tax bill works.
