ISP to conduct roadside checks

The Illinois State Police have announced troopers will be conducting several Roadside Safety Checks, Alcohol countermeasure, nighttime enforcement and occupant restraint patrols. The safety programs will be held throughout several districts in September.

Troopers will be on the alert for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, or Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

Statistics show alcohol and drug impairment are major factors in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. The project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
