Illinois State Police report a Texas man who fled the scene of a traffic accident following a domestic dispute near Paxton (Tuesday) has been located. 27-year-old Sergio
Huerta was located after fleeing from the scene of a traffic accident along I-57.  There were no updates beyond that, with authorities saying only that “the investigation is ongoing.”

The news came about 28 hours after state troopers responded to an Interstate 57 crash near milepost 259, south of Paxton.  Huerta is from Huntsville, Texas.  Police reported he was a passenger in a northbound vehicle that crashed after hitting a tractor-trailer. The crash happened after a domestic dispute. State police spokesman Jayme Bufford said when troopers responded to the scene, Huerta took off on foot about 4:20 pm Tuesday.

State police, with help from a Paxton police canine unit and officers from the Paxton Police Department and Ford County Sheriff’s Office, searched the woods and cornfields in that area.

Huerta was wanted on a nationwide warrant for burglary and by District 21 Illinois State Police for domestic battery, child endangerment and reckless conduct, Bufford said.
