Jail inmates deaths raises more talk among activists

Last summer’s deaths of two inmates inside the Iroquois County Jail is the subject of an ongoing investigation --- but the probe is in the hands of the Illinois State Police. The frustrating lack of information is still raising questions among activists circulating a petition to get answers. County Board Chairman John Shure reminds people the investigation is in the hands of the State Police.

The public comment session of Tuesday’s Board meeting brought Kankakee County Activist Sophia Bos-Shodi to the floor…Inmates Andre Maiden and Jason Fancher died within a day of each other while jailed. Protesters made their appearance in Watseka, protesting what they said was ‘lack of medical attention inside the jail’ and little information about what happened.

Autopsies however, showed drug overdoses. There’s been no updated information from the ISP about the investigation…… Bos-Shodi said there's been no transparency in the investigation and answers would help.  Bos=Shodi said she’d like to reach out to the County Board to work together toward some accountability.
