The Sheldon man convicted earlier for the strangulation death of a 17-year-old girl in 2019 is going to prison for a long time. Arthur Jensen was sentenced (Monday) to 50-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Iroquois County Circuit Judge Michael Sabol handed down the sentence in Watseka. Jensen will have to serve 100% of the 50-year prison term, minus 1380 days served in the Iroquois County Jail awaiting trial.
A jury convicted Jensen of first-degree Murder in early March for the strangulation death of Miss Adara Bunn in August 2019. Miss Bunn was a student at Milford High School. She lived in Sheldon with her family. Prosecutors said the murder happened in Jensen’s house at 315 W. Main Street in Sheldon.
Jensen had called 9-1-1 himself to report the incident. When Police arrived at his home, he told them , “there’s girl inside, I strangled her.”
Assistant State’s Attorney’s Michael Quinlan and Jennifer Mansberger prosecuted the case for the State. Defense Attornies Lance Cagle and Samantha Dodd represented the 53-year-old Jensen.
Judge Sabol issued his sentence after hearing from the respective attorney’s May 8.
