JJC urges parental involvement during the prom and graduation season

High school proms and graduation events are popular things to find on people’s calendars these days. And the Juvenile Justice Council of Iroquois County hopes adults will share thoughts and communication to keep the teenage experience safe and fun.  Iroquois County Sheriff Deputy Clint Perzee offered some tips with WGFA listeners, saying the more communication between teens with parents and guardians shows the concern is always present to promote safety.

"Communication is always key.  Tell your teens you love them, care about them and their safety," Perzee said.  "It's all about the prom and graduation events being special and always remembered for the right reasons."  He added, make sure to tell teens 'we're always there and know what their plans are and where they're located.'

Convey the rules and make sure the consequences are understood – when it comes to underage drinking and drug use. It’s communication that plays the vital role in prevention.
