35-year-old Elijah Manuel of Joliet was the driver of a vehicle that crashed in rural Dwight last Saturday morning. Police have not said why fled the scene of the Livingston County accident. But he was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections, having been released from prison in February 0f 2020. He served time for a Will County home invasion in 2013.

Emergency crews responded to the site on Verona Road but were unable to locate the driver. Manuel was found along side the closed-Dwight Correctional Center about 8:45 the same morning. Fire officials reported Manuel was found lying in a snow bank suffering from severe hypothermia. Manuel was transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.
