A 32-year-old Kankakee man was killed Friday when he crashed his vehicle into the rear of a semi-tractor trailer on Kankakee’s south side. Edward Smith was fleeing from police when he slammed into the trailer on S. Schuyler Avenue.

According to police, Smith was pronounced dead at Presence St. Mary's Hospital.

Friday's crash occurred at Schuyler Avenue and West Jeffery shortly after 7 p.m. The semi was turning west onto Jeffery.
Police reported Smith was speeding and may have lost control of his car.

The incident began after Walmart personnel called 911 about a suspicious subject acting irrational inside the store located at 505 Riverstone Parkway. He was taking inappropriate photos of women in the store.

Smith allegedly fled from the store and drove off.  The crash remains under investigation.
