The interim-police chief label continues for Price Dumas in the city of Kankakee. Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong’s appointment to the post was denied by the city council last night. The council voted 10-4 against the mayor’s choice.
The mayor immediately re-appointed Dumas to the interim-position for the next 30 days.
Price Dumas was appointed by the mayor after Lt. Robin Passwater resigned as interim-chief. He was in place since April when former chief Larry Regnier resigned and retired following the mayor’s win in the April election.
Passwater resigned and returned to his position in the ranks after Mayor Wells-Armstrong made it evident she was in favor of Price Dumas as the next chief.
Council members have balked about the mayor’s choice, citing lack of experience.
