Safety concerns have forced city officials in Kankakee to close River Street until improvements can be made. River Street is closed in both directions, according to a spokesperson in the mayor’s office. The street is closed under the Canadian National Railroad bridge.
The safety concerns came about when chunks of concrete started to fall from the bridge. No one’s been hurt, but the route needs attention to make sure nothing serious happens. The railroad and engineers are working on a plan to make needed repairs. Motorists are encouraged to seek an alternate route.
