The Veterans Assistance Commission stands to benefit from the increased levy approved today (Tuesday) by the Kankakee County Board. The VAC gets a 14% increase over last year’s levy. Board Chairman Andy Wheeler says the increase for the veterans is certainly worth it; and as veterans come from, he said, we need to make sure they’re taken care of. >> 

The county levy for this next year is $22 million, $935,000 dollars. Wheeler adds, a hike of five percentage points is something needed to make sure all aspects of the county bill is covered.
