The Kankakee County Board has a second meeting planned this week, in addition to Tuesday's regular monthly meeting. And the reason is due to hot issues that consumed discussion time yesterday.

The Board's finance committee last week considered another $400,000 in budget cuts. The Board is in need of cuts and hope for finding new revenues. The county's $25.3 million budget has already been cut $8 million over the last four years.

The board also has a decision to select a liability insurance carrier. The Daily-Journal reports, the insurance, which comes with a price tag of about $1 million, covers a massive amount of liability for the county ranging from vehicles to litigation from inmates at the county jail.

The board has two competing bids this year from brokers (including Deuschle-Gilmore Insurance of Kankakee and George Ryan Jr. Insurance Group of Kankakee).

One bid is $915,000, although an alternative also is being offered. The other company in place now, has covered the county for years and submitted two bids for $1.1 million and $1.4 million, according to the county's budget documents.

The proposals will be presented at Thursday's meeting.
