The Kankakee County Board has approved COVID relief money for distribution. A dozen (12) requests from agencies were OK’d Tuesday. More than $570,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds will be provide relief from the pandemic.
County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler said “we listened, reviewed applications and requests and found it to be good use for the money” that Kankakee County has been allotted.
Among the 12 requests, was $156,854 for Pembroke Township to repair and replace a sewer lift-station in Hopkins Park. Township Supervisor Sam Payton had requested the financial help and worked to secure the intergovernmental agreement.
Small businesses, local government departments, a park district and several nonprofits were included in the requests.
Kankakee County and City of Kankakee governments have been asking and meeting with the community while seeking input for use of the ARPA funds.
