A property tax increase, approved in committee (Tuesday) is expected to generate up to $800,000 to help the bottom line in Kankakee County government.

Finance committee Chairman Mike LeGesse tells WGFA's Rob West it's slow progress, but it's movement in a positive direction."

LeGesse said there was a decrease of about $6-million in revenues, between 2014 to 2016. And, $7.6 million has been cut.

The county has 21 less employees over the last year.

The County Board Finance committee got a final look at the 2015 fiscal year. The end balance was listed as a $4.8 million loss. There were over $2-million dollars in unpaid bills.

Besides the property tax hike, the Zoning Wind Ordinance was changed, allowing for a 10-year corporate guarantee instead of a surety bond. It covers the cost of decommissioning wind turbines and provides a one-time payment of $300,000.
