The courthouse lawn in Kankakee was the setting Thursday for the 2019 Law Enforcement Memorial ceremony. Several area police agencies and military groups were represented to pay respect to those officers who died in the line of duty over the years.

Retired Illinois State Trooper Bridget Bertrand-Essington was the featured speaker this year. She’s a KCC Professor of Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement.

Bourbonnais Police remember Officer Honeycutt --

A tree, planted out front of the Bourbonnais Police Department, was dedicated (Thursday) to honor the life of former village patrolman Justin Honeycutt. The 27-year-old died in a traffic accident in 2011 while driving to work. Members of the officers’ family were present for the dedication, which welcomed the public.
