Kankakee County Jail inspection gets high-marks

At the Kankakee County Board Finance meeting (Wed), Sheriff Mike Downey shared some positive news concerning operations at the Jerome Combs Detention Center. A recent week-long inspection by ICE – the immigration detention program that brings inmates to be housed at the county jail, the Office of Detention Oversight (ODO) found Kankakee County jail operations among the best.
Sheriff Downey shared comments in a preliminary report from the Lead Inspector ……. "In 37 years of this federal government work, he's never worked with such a good organization. "  Downey said tghe inspector looked forward to working with our facilit and he complimented our staff for its willingness to learn and adjust.   

The Sheriff added, he welcomes such inspections to clear the air of often-times, unwarranted criticism.  Sheriff Downey said "I've always maintained getting these outside inspections gives us a fresh set of eyes and makes us better."  

Following up on the ODO inspection by ICE, the Illinois Department of Corrections also visited the local jail for an inspection yesterday (Wednesday).
