More than a half-dozen mayors in Kankakee County are throwing their support behind a referendum question next week to form an executive form of county government.
Spokesperson Tim Nugent, the mayor Manteno, says "it makes that person a little more receptive to the people."
Nugent is one of eight mayors asking voters to support the executive form of government question on the November 4th ballot. The mayors of Bradley, Bourbonnais, Momence, Grant Park, Aroma Park, Reddick and Sun River Terrace are all onboard supporting the question on Tuesday's ballot.
Nugent said the people don't have a voice the way it is now. The County Board Chairman is appointed by the majority of the county board.
The county board voted earlier this month to oppose the measure, saying it would form another level of government that would be expensive and cause political conflict.
