The Kankakee County Board is providing nearly $750,000 in additional American Rescue Act (ARPA) monies for three projects. Applications were approved for the Helen Wheeler Center, a remodel project for the Circuit Court and for the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department’s old jail.
The Helen Wheeler Center for Community Mental Health will receive $404,273 for its social services programming and to help hire personnel for administering counseling to mental health patients. The Court remodel is listed at $42,340. It entails 26-hundred square feet on the second level of the Courthouse. The Old Jail site, to the south of the Courthouse, will get infrastructure improvements.
