Kankakee County’s April 4th Election features mayor’s contests

Kankakee County’s three major communities have contested races for the mayor’s offices.

The City of Kankakee has a 3-person race. Bradley and Bourbonnais’s incumbent mayors are challenged. Aroma Park and Momence offer voters 2-person races.

Voters have several choices for trustee seats in Bradley and Bourbonnais.

The Kankakee Valley Park District and the Momence Park District offer voters a choice. And the Herscher, Kankakee District #111, and Pembroke Township school districts offer contests too.

Hot button referendums include the Public Safety Sales Tax. The measure is asking voters to support a quarter percent sales tax increase from 6.25 to 6.5% on retail items sold in Kankakee County.

The tax would only be in effect for four years and monies generated would support public safety and criminal justice. County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler says it tax is likely to generate up to $2.4 million dollars.
