Kankakee County’s financial picture much better

The financial woes in Kankakee County are a thing of the past. But there’s still much more work ahead to improve the big picture. That word from County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler. And he says the good news is because of all the work of many people, including department heads and finance leader.

Wheeler said in three-year’s time, so much has changed. He said many people have done their part to hold the line on spending. But he also says there’s more to do. A comfortable surplus will keep us from having to borrow. Wheeler said it’s a good day.

At the County Board meeting (Tuesday), Finance Committee Chairman Steve McCarty delivered the good news…. the county general fund shows a balance of $1.1 million dollars. That’s a far cry from the $5-million in red ink the general fund showed back in 2015 and 2016.
