Kankakee County, Village of Aroma Park finalize agreement for police protection

An intergovernmental agreement between the Village of Aroma Park and the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement got the go-ahead (Tuesday). The Kankakee County Board voted for the contractual arrangement.

Aroma Park reached out to the County for help. Sheriff Mike Downey explained Aroma Park will have some costs to pick up. The Village does not have a full-time police force. County deputies will provide police-coverage when the local officers are not on duty. The arrangement is similar for what county deputies do for those towns that don’t have their own patrols.

County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler also expects other community governments to reach out to the sheriff’s department for the same type of police help. ---
The Aroma Park Village Board earlier voted to disband its local police department.
