Kankakee, Danville fires investigated

The Dearborn Apartment building in Kankakee was evacuated Saturday when a fire broke out in a third-floor apartment. Kankakee Fire reported no injury. But the occupants, a woman and a child, were forced to find a place to stay. Damage estimates were placed at $25,000. None of the other 99 units in the building were affected.

Danville Days Inn Fire --

No injuries were reported late Friday morning when a small fire broke out at a Danville motel. Firefighters responded to the Days Inn at 77 North Vermilion Street where they found smoke coming from a fifth floor window.

Fire officials reported the fire was contained to a utility room. Firefighters evacuated a lot of people as they searched for the cause of the smoke. Some off-duty firefighters were also called to cover the rest of the city.

Public Safety Director Thomason says the blaze was quickly extinguished. The cause of the fire and a dollar estimate of damage wasn’t available.
